Improvement of essential hypertension and heart failure (left ventricular dysfunction)
This medication is used to control blood pressure in hypertension, particularly essential hypertension. It is also helpful for patients with heart failure with decreased left ventricular function, especially those with low left ventricular ejection fraction and moderate to severe symptoms. It is particularly effective in patients who require additional treatment with an ACE inhibitor or cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors. This medication is very useful for reducing the burden on the heart and improving heart failure symptoms. Therefore, it is used for the treatment of essential hypertension and certain heart failure patients.
For essential hypertension, the recommended initial dose and maintenance dose is 8 to 16 mg of Candesartan Cilexetil taken orally once a day. If blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled after 4 weeks of treatment at 16 mg once daily, the dose can be increased up to 32 mg once daily. In elderly patients and some patients (with decreased intravascular effective blood volume, renal impairment, or liver impairment), special dose adjustments may be required as indicated.
The safety and efficacy in individuals under 18 years of age have not been established.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so treatment should be stopped immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. Patients with allergies to this medication, severely impaired liver function, or those with hereditary lactose intolerance should also avoid it. Special caution is necessary for elderly patients, those with weaker kidney function, and patients with hyperkalemia, and it is important to regularly monitor potassium levels and kidney function with blood tests. This medication can cause side effects such as dizziness, back pain, and respiratory infections, and rarely symptoms like skin rashes, liver function abnormalities, or blood pressure drops. Heart failure patients should take this medication under the supervision of healthcare professionals due to the risk of blood pressure drops or worsening kidney function. There can be interactions if taken with other antihypertensive medications or diuretics, so consulting a physician is advised. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness may occur, and in case of overdose, immediate medical attention should be sought. The safety of this medication has not been established for children and adolescents, therefore, it is advisable not to use it in individuals under 18 years of age. When storing, keep it out of the reach of children, and do not transfer it to other containers.
