This medication helps control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It is also used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death from cardiovascular disease in patients over 55 years of age who are at high risk for cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it is effective for blood pressure management and improvement of cardiovascular health.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Essential Hypertension Telmisartan, 40 mg once daily, administered orally with water, and may be taken regardless of meals. In some patients, 20 mg once daily may also be effective. If necessary, the dose can be increased to a maximum of 80 mg once daily, and dose adjustments will show maximal blood pressure-lowering effect 4 to 8 weeks after treatment initiation. 2. Reduction of Cardiovascular Disease Risk As this medication, it is recommended to take 80 mg once daily orally with water, and may be taken regardless of meals.

Precautions

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn, especially during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It should not be used in individuals who have an allergic reaction to this medication, are pregnant or nursing, have severe liver impairment, have certain kidney diseases, or have hereditary angioedema. Caution is advised for the elderly, patients with hyperkalemia, liver impairment, heart valve diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, and those with poor kidney function while using this drug. While taking this medication, various side effects such as infections, blood disorders, hyperkalemia, hypoglycemia, hypotension, liver function abnormalities, kidney dysfunction, and allergic reactions may occur, so consult a healthcare professional if unusual symptoms arise. Particularly, if symptoms of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, and tongue) occur, discontinue use immediately and seek emergency treatment. Regular monitoring of kidney function and serum electrolyte levels is required while on this medication, and appropriate actions should be taken if symptoms of hypotension appear. Care should be taken when taking it with other antihypertensives, certain diuretics, lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, etc., as interactions could increase the risk of side effects. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and it is also advisable to avoid use while nursing. Its safety and efficacy have not been established for children and adolescents under 18, so it is not recommended. In case of overdose, symptoms may include hypotension, dizziness, acute kidney failure, etc., and immediate medical attention should be sought. Store this medication out of reach of children, and open the packaging just before use.
