Precautions

This drug is an oral bisphosphonate, primarily used for the treatment of osteoporosis. It may irritate the upper gastrointestinal mucosa upon administration; therefore, patients with upper gastrointestinal diseases such as Barrett's esophagus, dysphagia, esophageal diseases, gastritis, duodenitis, and ulcers should exercise caution. It is essential to follow the dosage instructions strictly, and after taking the medication, do not lie down for at least 30 minutes, and take it with a sufficient amount of water to reduce the risk of esophageal irritation. If symptoms such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, or esophageal erosion appear, immediately stop taking the medication and consult a physician. This drug should not be administered to specific patients, including those with esophageal motility disorders, hypocalcemia, pregnant or nursing women, and those with severe renal impairment. Additionally, patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take this drug due to lactose content. It is vital to take sufficient calcium and vitamin D during treatment, and if hypocalcemia or parathyroid dysfunction is present, treatment must occur before use. Similar to other drugs in the same class, rare serious side effects such as osteonecrosis of the jaw, atypical femoral fractures, and osteonecrosis of the external auditory canal have been reported; therefore, if such symptoms occur, immediate consultation with healthcare personnel is necessary. Antacids containing drugs such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and aluminum should not be taken simultaneously as they may interfere with absorption; therefore, the timing of these medications must be adjusted. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant and nursing mothers should not use this drug, as it may affect the fetus during pregnancy, requiring caution. The safety and efficacy in children have not been established, and the elderly can use it without significant differences, but careful observation is necessary. In case of overdose, symptoms of hypocalcemia may appear, requiring appropriate treatment such as administering ionized calcium, and gastric lavage should be considered. Keep this medication out of reach of children, and avoid transferring it to other containers.
