This medication helps treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is also used to treat osteoporosis in men. Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become weak and can fracture easily, and this medication works to increase bone strength and prevent bone loss. Therefore, it is effective in reducing the risk of fractures due to osteoporosis. It is an important medication for maintaining bone health and preventing bone diseases. It is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. Take at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after eating food or drinking anything. Take with a sufficient amount of pure water (170-230 mL) while sitting upright, and do not chew or suck on the tablet. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking.

Child dose

The safety and efficacy for children and adolescents in growth have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa and can lead to esophageal reactions such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosion when taken. Always take this medication with a sufficient amount of water, and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. If experiencing difficulty swallowing, pain while swallowing, pain behind the sternum, or heartburn, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Patients with problems in esophageal motility, hypocalcemia, or severe renal impairment should not take this medication. Patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should also avoid it. Patients with allergies to Yellow No. 5 dye should take caution. Possible adverse reactions include dyspepsia, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, muscle pain, joint pain, headache, dizziness, rash, among others. Regular check-ups are necessary as long-term use can decrease blood calcium and phosphorus levels. Rare side effects such as osteonecrosis of the jaw and external auditory canal osteonecrosis have been reported, thus oral hygiene care and attention during dental treatments are recommended. This medication's absorption may be hindered when taken with antacids or supplements containing calcium, magnesium, or iron, so it should be spaced apart. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before taking this medication, and it is recommended to either discontinue breastfeeding or halt the administration of this medication. The safety for children has not been established, and elderly persons can take it without special caution. Symptoms of hypocalcemia may occur with overdose, necessitating immediate medical assistance, where gastric lavage or calcium supplementation may be performed if needed. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and changing the container is not recommended.
