This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

How to take

Adult dose

Risedronate sodium 150 mg should be taken orally once a month. Since food may interfere with the absorption of this medication, it should be taken at least 30 minutes before consuming any food or beverages other than water for optimal absorption. This medication should be taken in an upright position with a sufficient amount of pure water (170 to 230 mL). It should not be chewed or sucked, and the patient should not lie down for at least

Precautions

This medication may cause gastrointestinal irritation; therefore, patients with diseases of the esophagus or stomach should take special care when using it. After taking the medication, it should be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and the patient should not lie down for at least 30 minutes. If any abnormal symptoms occur in the esophagus, the medication should be stopped immediately and the patient should consult a doctor. This medication should not be used in patients with certain esophageal diseases, hypocalcemia, severe renal impairment, or in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Additionally, caution is advised for patients with lactose intolerance. This medication may hinder the absorption of other medications containing calcium, magnesium, or iron, so an interval should be taken between dosing. Rarely, serious side effects such as bone or muscle pain and jaw osteonecrosis may occur with long-term use; any symptoms should be discussed with healthcare professionals. Adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D, along with weight-bearing exercises and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle, will aid in treatment. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid taking this medication, and its safety and effectiveness have not been established for children under the age of 18. In case of overdose, symptoms of hypocalcemia may appear, so the healthcare provider should be notified immediately for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
