This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. How to take

Adult dose

As Risedronate Sodium, administer 150 mg orally once monthly. Food interferes with the absorption of this medication, so take it at least 30 minutes before consuming any food or beverages other than plain water at the beginning of the day. This medication should be taken with an adequate amount of plain water (170-230 mL) in an upright position. Do not chew or suck on it, and patients should not lie down for at least 30 minutes afterward.

Precautions

This medication can irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, so patients with esophageal disorders, gastritis, duodenitis, or ulcers should use it with caution. After taking it, serious esophageal adverse reactions such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosion can occur, so if symptoms like difficulty swallowing, chest pain, or heartburn appear, immediately stop taking the medication and consult a physician. When taking this medication, it should be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and patients should not lie down for at least 30 minutes afterward. Following the correct method of intake is crucial to prevent serious side effects. Patients with esophageal stricture or achalasia that delay esophageal transit, patients with hypocalcemia, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and patients with severe renal impairment should not use this medication. Patients who are allergic to lactose contained in this medication should also avoid it. Patients with upper gastrointestinal diseases or allergies to the dye contained in the medication should take it with caution. This medication can have various side effects, with symptoms such as dyspepsia, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, joint pain, muscle pain, dizziness, rash, etc., reported. Long-term use can rarely lead to osteonecrosis of the jaw, atypical femoral fractures, and severe bone, joint, and muscle pain, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to a physician immediately. Adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D is essential to prevent metabolic abnormalities like hypocalcemia, and these conditions should be well managed before taking the medication. This medication may have absorption interference when taken with other drugs or foods containing calcium, magnesium, or iron, so a time gap should be maintained during intake. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication or decide after consulting a physician, and safety for children under 18 years has not been established. In case of overdose, symptoms of hypocalcemia may occur, so immediately inform medical personnel and receive appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and care should be taken not to transfer it to another container.
