Effect of reducing essential hypertension and cardiovascular disease risk
This medication helps treat essential hypertension and maintain blood pressure within the normal range. It is also used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death from cardiovascular diseases in patients with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attack, as well as in high-risk diabetics. In particular, this medication serves as an alternative for patients who cannot use ACE inhibitors, thereby improving cardiovascular health. Consequently, it is effectively used for treating essential hypertension and reducing cardiovascular disease risk.
Administer 40 mg once daily orally with water, which can be taken regardless of meals. A lower dose of 20 mg once daily may also be effective for some patients. Dosage can be increased to 80 mg once daily if necessary. Maximum antihypertensive effect occurs 4 to 8 weeks after treatment initiation. For cardiovascular disease risk reduction, a daily dose of 80 mg is recommended, regardless of meals.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medication should not be administered to individuals who are allergic to it or its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with severe liver impairment or biliary obstruction, patients with hereditary angioedema, and those with certain renal diseases or diabetes. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, liver impairment, and patients with heart valve diseases or ischemic heart disease should use this medication with caution, as significant problems may arise if blood pressure becomes too low. While taking this medication, various adverse reactions such as infections, blood pressure drops, liver dysfunction, kidney function decline, angioedema, and myalgia may occur, so seek medical advice immediately if symptoms appear. Especially if blood pressure drops too low or if symptoms like dizziness or syncope occur, immediate treatment is required, as serious side effects such as interstitial pneumonia or rhabdomyolysis have been reported. Patients with impaired kidney function should regularly monitor potassium and creatinine levels in their blood, and since the risk of hypotension is high in cases of reduced blood volume, pre-existing conditions must be corrected before administration. This medication may have an increased effect when used in conjunction with other antihypertensive agents, and there is a heightened risk of renal function deterioration or hyperkalemia when combined with certain medications, so consultation with a healthcare provider is essential. This medication should not be taken during pregnancy, and if breastfeeding, either the medication should be avoided or breastfeeding should be discontinued. Use in children under 18 is not recommended due to a lack of confirmed safety and effectiveness. In case of overdose, symptoms such as low blood pressure, heart rate abnormalities, dizziness, and acute renal failure may arise, necessitating an immediate visit to the hospital for appropriate treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and the sealed packaging should be opened just before use. Caution is advised while driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or syncope may occur.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture; therefore, it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. The recommended storage temperature is between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius, at room temperature. This helps maintain the medication's effectiveness safely.
