This medication helps control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It also reduces the likelihood of developing cardiovascular diseases in high-risk patients aged 55 and older. Specifically, it is used to lower the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death due to cardiovascular diseases in those with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attack, or those with organ damage due to diabetes. This efficacy significantly contributes to improving the cardiovascular health of patients.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm to both the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, so discontinuation is necessary if pregnancy is confirmed. It should not be used in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with severe liver impairment, a history of certain angioedema, or those with diabetes or severe kidney impairment. Elderly patients or those with hyperkalemia, liver disease, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders, or renovascular hypertension should use this medication cautiously and monitor their condition carefully. During treatment, various adverse reactions such as blood pressure reduction, hyperkalemia, renal dysfunction, angioedema, liver dysfunction, interstitial pneumonia, and rhabdomyolysis may occur, and any symptoms should be discussed with a physician immediately. Patients with impaired renal function should have their serum potassium and creatinine levels monitored regularly, and any deficiencies in blood volume or sodium should be corrected before administration to prevent symptoms of hypotension. When used with other antihypertensive medications or certain drugs, interactions may occur, so patients should inform their physician or pharmacist and monitor carefully. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and nursing mothers are advised to discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medication. This medication is not recommended for children under 18 years of age as its safety and efficacy have not been established. In elderly patients, caution should be exercised to avoid excessive blood pressure reduction, and consideration should be given to the risk of dizziness or fainting when driving or operating hazardous machinery. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, tachycardia, dizziness, and acute renal failure may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment and frequent checks of blood pressure and blood tests.
