This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

How to take

Adult dose

As Sodium Alendronate, take 150 mg orally once a month. Since food can interfere with the absorption of this medication, it should be taken at least 30 minutes before the first intake of food or beverages other than water during the day. This medication should be taken in an upright position with a sufficient amount of plain water (170 - 230 mL). It should not be chewed or sucked, and one should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it.

Child dose

The safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, so caution is needed for those with upper gastrointestinal disorders. In particular, patients with esophageal diseases, gastritis, duodenitis, or ulcers should consult a doctor before taking this medication. It is essential to take this medication with a sufficient amount of water, and the patient should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain esophageal abnormalities, hypocalcemia, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, or patients with severe renal impairment. Additionally, individuals with lactose intolerance should not take this medication. It is important to maintain adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D while on this medication, and caution should be exercised when taking it with drugs containing divalent cations such as calcium or magnesium, as absorption may be hindered. If symptoms such as esophagitis, dysphagia, chest pain, or heartburn occur during use, the patient should immediately stop taking the medication and consult a doctor. Long-term use may rarely lead to side effects such as fractures or osteonecrosis of the jaw, so regular check-ups are necessary. The administration of this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be avoided or done according to a doctor's guidance. Safety has not been established for use in children, so it is advisable not to use this medication in pediatric patients. In case of overdose, serum calcium and phosphate levels may decrease, and prompt medical attention should be sought.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, mucosal pain in mouth/eyes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities with cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, urinary incontinence.
