This medication is primarily used in patients with hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia. It is particularly helpful for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or combined hyperlipidemia that is not controlled by diet or exercise, and is also used as an adjunct in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It lowers total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels, delaying the progression of atherosclerosis. Additionally, it serves as an adjunct to lower cholesterol levels in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It is also used to treat patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia and helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases—especially risks associated with stroke, myocardial infarction, and revascularization procedures. Overall, this drug is used for improving blood lipids and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
