Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
This medication can be used for the treatment of essential hypertension. It is particularly effective for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with telmisartan alone. Patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with telmisartan alone should take this medication once daily with water, regardless of meals. It is recommended to adjust the individual dosages of each component before switching to this fixed-dose combination. Directly switching from monotherapy to this medication can also be considered. - The telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide combination 40/12.5 mg can be administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with telmisartan 40 mg. - The telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide combination 80/12.5 mg can be administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with telmisartan 80 mg. - The telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide combination 80/25 mg can be administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with the combination of telmisartan 80 mg and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg respectively alone or in combination. Sodium depletion or hypovolemia should be corrected before starting this medication.
Safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in patients under 18 years of age.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use it. Administration is prohibited for patients with allergies to the components of this medication or those with certain liver or kidney diseases. It should be used with caution in elderly patients or those with specific heart, liver, or kidney conditions to avoid excessive drops in blood pressure. The hydrochlorothiazide component can cause electrolyte imbalances in the body, so regular blood tests should be performed to check levels of potassium, sodium, and others. This medication can interact with other antihypertensive drugs, diuretics, lithium, etc.; therefore, it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. If unusual symptoms such as dizziness, low blood pressure, skin rash, or difficulty breathing occur while taking this medication, you should consult medical personnel immediately. Caution is needed as drowsiness or dizziness can occur while driving or operating machinery. Safety has not been established for use in children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
