Short-term adjunctive treatment for weight loss in exogenous obesity
This medication is used when appropriate dietary and exercise regimens do not yield results for weight loss. It is especially recommended for patients with exogenous obesity who have an initial body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or those with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia with a BMI of over 27. This drug works by suppressing appetite to aid in weight management and is used short-term in conjunction with exercise, behavioral modification, and calorie restriction. It must be used alone, without the combination of other appetite suppressants, and supports safe and effective weight management. This drug is used to improve the patient's weight loss and alleviate obesity-related health issues.
Adults: Administer phentermine hydrochloride 37.5 mg orally once daily before breakfast or 1 ~ 2 hours after breakfast. Use the minimum effective dose, adjusting it individually to obtain an adequate response. For some patients, 18.75 mg once daily may be appropriate, while in some cases it may be preferable to take 18.75 mg twice daily. Avoid taking this medication late at night because it may cause insomnia. This medication is administered for a short period (within 4 weeks). However, to reduce inappropriate use and risks, treatment with this medication may be continued if the patient achieves satisfactory weight loss within the first 4 weeks (weight loss of at least 1.8 kg or weight loss considered satisfactory by both the physician and the patient).
This medication should not be used in conjunction with other appetite suppressants and should only be used alone for a short duration. It is not recommended to use this medication alongside other weight loss drugs due to unestablished safety and efficacy. This drug may be associated with primary pulmonary hypertension, so inform your doctor immediately if symptoms such as shortness of breath or angina occur. Care should be taken to avoid prolonged use or exceeding the recommended dosage due to potential associations with heart valve disease. Patients with arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, severe hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, or hyperthyroidism should not take this medication. Additionally, it should not be administered to women who are pregnant or have certain genetic disorders, or to children under 16 years of age. Diabetic patients may require insulin dosage adjustments, so they should use this medication cautiously, and patients with mild hypertension should also use it carefully. This medication may cause side effects such as increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, anxiety, insomnia, headache, dry mouth, digestive disturbances, etc. It is recommended to start with the minimum dose initially to avoid overdose and discontinue use if tolerance develops without increasing dosage. This drug affects the central nervous system, so caution is needed when driving or operating dangerous machinery. Avoid taking it with alcohol as it may exacerbate side effects. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should be cautious when deciding to use this medication in consultation with their doctor. In case of overdose, symptoms may include anxiety, coma, seizures, heart issues, and vomiting; immediate medical attention is required. Keep out of reach of children, and as this medication may have dependence potential, it should be taken according to the doctor's instructions.
