This medication is used for patients with hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy. It helps to lower blood pressure effectively and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease when this medication is added to treatment that is insufficient on its own.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, so discontinue immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients who are allergic to this medication or have severely impaired kidney function, as well as those with certain electrolyte imbalances, should not take it. Patients with low blood pressure, kidney disorders, or liver disorders should use this medication cautiously, especially elderly patients or those with diabetes. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels is necessary while taking this medication to ensure there are no abnormalities. This medication can affect blood potassium levels, so avoid taking it with potassium supplements or drugs containing potassium. Hydrochlorothiazide can cause side effects like electrolyte imbalance, hypokalemia, and hyponatremia, so consult a doctor immediately if symptoms occur. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, so exercise caution when driving or operating machinery. Hydrochlorothiazide can increase sensitivity to sunlight and raise the risk of skin cancer, so sun exposure should be limited and protective measures taken. In case of overdose, symptoms like low blood pressure or arrhythmias may occur, so adhere to the prescribed dosage and visit a medical facility immediately if unusual symptoms arise. This medication is not recommended for children and adolescents, and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking it. Regular blood tests and health status check-ups as advised by a doctor are necessary before and after taking this medication.
