Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and helps in the action of insulin. It may place additional strain on the heart during use, so patients with congestive heart failure or a history of congestive heart failure should not take it. During the initial dosage or after increasing the dose, carefully observe for sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, and swelling. If these symptoms occur, consult a physician immediately for appropriate treatment, and if necessary, discontinue or reduce the dosage. This medication may cause fluid retention leading to swelling, and caution is especially needed for patients with heart disease. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should not take this medication. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function should also avoid using this medication. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use this medication, and premenopausal women should employ appropriate contraceptive methods as the risk of pregnancy may increase while taking this medication. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur when taken with other hypoglycemic agents, so caution is advised, and dosage adjustments for other medications may be necessary. Regular monitoring of blood sugar and liver function tests is required during the use of this medication, and any unusual symptoms such as weight changes, swelling, or shortness of breath should be reported to a physician. Furthermore, long-term use of this medication may lead to weight gain and increased risk of fractures, so consistent management is necessary. Acute overdose may not present any specific symptoms; however, if unusual symptoms occur, consult healthcare professionals immediately. Lastly, this medication has not established safety and efficacy for use in children or adolescents under 18 years of age, so it should not be used.
