Precautions

This medication has a slow onset of action and is not suitable as an initial treatment for patients with symptoms; other treatments should be used first when symptoms are present. Patients allergic to this drug or its components should not use it. Use with caution in elderly patients, pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, and patients with non-specific liver disease. While using this medication, there may be increases in blood lipase and amylase levels, and caution is advised as symptoms such as decreased iron levels, gastric discomfort, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occur. When using this medication for the first time, liver function tests and urinalysis should be performed monthly to monitor liver health. If amylase and lipase levels remain elevated for an extended period, additional testing for pancreatic function may be necessary. This medication may have reduced efficacy when taken with specific chelators, thus should be taken with at least a 1-hour interval. If taken with food, absorption of this medication may be delayed, so it is advisable to take it more than 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. Elderly patients may have reduced bodily functions and should use this medication with additional caution. Pregnant women or those of childbearing age should use this medication carefully, as there is limited experience with its use, and rare cases of fetal abnormalities have been reported. Breastfeeding women should avoid breastfeeding while using this medication, as it can be transferred into breast milk and may affect the baby's health. The safety of this medication in children or newborns, especially low birth weight newborns, is not well established and requires caution. Overdosing on this medication can lead to severe vomiting, dizziness, kidney damage, pancreatitis, and other serious side effects. In case of overdose, immediate measures such as gastric lavage or inducing vomiting should be taken, and specialized treatment should be sought if necessary.
