This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of scurvy. It is also helpful when physical strength is reduced or when experiencing severe physical fatigue during pregnancy or lactation, or during illness and recovery. It is effective in alleviating symptoms of capillary bleeding such as gum bleeding and nosebleeds caused by vitamin C deficiency, as well as skin hyperpigmentation (chloasma, freckles). It is also used for symptoms caused by malabsorption. Overall, this medicine helps improve various symptoms related to vitamin C deficiency.

How to take

Adult dose

As ascorbic acid, the usual dose is 500 to 1000 mg to be taken once a day or several times (divided doses). Take with a sufficient amount of water.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals allergic to specific ingredients or those with oxalate stones, Mediterranean anemia, gout, cystinuria, or G6PD deficiency. In particular, those with oxalate stones in the kidneys should avoid high doses of 1 gram or more per day. While taking this medication, one should exercise caution as scurvy may occur in newborns if taken during pregnancy or in high doses, and excessive alcohol consumption and smoking should be avoided. This medication should be taken with sufficient water, and one should avoid lying down immediately after taking it to prevent esophagitis. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have kidney stones, or are taking oral anticoagulants or certain medications should consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication. Smokers and chronic drinkers should also be careful. If symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn, facial flushing, headache, or insomnia occur during use, immediately discontinue use and consult a professional. Overdosage may cause kidney stones or urinary acidification. This medication should be taken according to the prescribed method and dosage, and adult supervision is required when administered to children.
