Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes by administering sitagliptin and metformin together. It is used as an adjunct to dietary and exercise therapy in patients, effectively lowering blood sugar levels. This contributes to smoother diabetes management and helps prevent complications. It is beneficial for overall blood sugar management and improves health.
This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. 1. For patients not currently treated with metformin: The initial dose is this medication 50/500 mg, one tablet twice daily, and it can be increased to 50/1000 mg, one tablet twice daily. 2. For patients undergoing metformin treatment, it is important to consult appropriate medical guidance.
This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin. First, sitagliptin can rarely cause severe allergic reactions; if symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, serious side effects such as pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported; therefore, if sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occurs, visit a hospital immediately. Metformin can cause extremely rare but fatal side effects like lactic acidosis; therefore, if symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, severe fatigue, or abdominal pain occur, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention. This medication should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function, those with acute heart disease, severe infections, or dehydration. If you are scheduled to undergo a test using iodine contrast agents, this medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after the test, and it should be resumed only after confirming normal kidney function. It is advisable not to use this medication in pregnant women, those who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and children under 18 years of age. While taking this medication, monitor for symptoms of hypoglycemia as blood sugar can drop too low, especially when taken with insulin or other diabetes medications. Furthermore, alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is recommended to avoid alcohol during treatment. If surgery is necessary, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours before the surgery and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. It is important to have regular blood tests and kidney function tests to safely continue taking this medication. Finally, during treatment with this medication, irregular eating habits, excessive exercise, and interactions with other medications may cause hypoglycemia or other side effects, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications you are taking and consult them.
