Treatment of myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension and angina pectoris (stable and variant), and reduction of hospitalization and risk of vascular intervention for angina.
This medication is used to treat myocardial ischemia, such as hypertension and stable angina, as well as variant angina due to vasospasm. It also helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina and the risk of coronary revascularization in patients who have confirmed coronary artery disease during recent angiography with no heart failure and an ejection fraction of 40% or more. Therefore, this medication is effectively used in the management of cardiovascular diseases and the prevention of related complications.
Take 5 mg of amlodipine orally once daily, and the dose may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg daily based on the patient's response. Adjustments should be made according to age and symptoms.
The oral dose of amlodipine for effective blood pressure lowering is 2.5 mg-5 mg once daily. Doses exceeding 5 mg per day in pediatric patients have not been studied.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, those who are allergic to this drug or similar drugs, those who are breastfeeding, patients with severely impaired liver function, patients with severe aortic stenosis, and those in shock should not take this medication. Additionally, this medication may require careful use in certain cases. Patients with severe hypotension, those with severely impaired kidney function requiring dialysis, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult their doctor before taking this medication. Generally, this medication has good tolerability, but symptoms such as flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur during use. Rarely, low blood pressure, allergic reactions, skin rashes, and liver function abnormalities have also been reported. Caution is advised for heart failure patients due to the risk of pulmonary edema, and patients with impaired liver function may require dose adjustments as the drug may remain in the body for a long time. This medication takes effect slowly, thus it is not suitable for rapid blood pressure lowering. There may be interactions when taken with other medications. Specifically, taking it with grapefruit juice may lead to excessive blood pressure-lowering effects, thus it is advisable to avoid it. Additionally, when taking it with certain antibiotics or blood pressure medications, analgesics, etc., notify your doctor or pharmacist and observe carefully. The safety of this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not confirmed; therefore, it should only be taken under the discretion of a physician when absolutely necessary, and it is recommended to cease breastfeeding during this time. For children, it is recommended for use only in those aged 6 years and above, as its efficacy and safety have not been established in children under 6 years of age. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension and cardiac dysfunction may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention. This drug is not removed by dialysis, so other treatment methods may be required. Finally, this medication has no risk of carcinogenicity or mutagenicity even with long-term use, and elderly patients can take it at standard dosages.
