How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose for adults is 1 tablet of valsartan 80 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, to be taken with a small amount of water, regardless of meals. Valsartan 160 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is used if prescribed for blood pressure reduction.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Use is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any ingredients in this medication, those who are pregnant, and patients with severe liver or kidney disease. Patients with electrolyte imbalances, poor renal and hepatic function, the elderly, and those with heart failure should use this medication with caution and require regular blood tests and monitoring of their condition. This medication can cause dizziness or drowsiness, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Potassium supplements or potassium-rich foods should not be taken with this medication without consulting a doctor, as it can lead to electrolyte abnormalities such as hypokalemia or hyponatremia; therefore, regular monitoring of serum electrolyte levels is necessary. During the use of this medication, caution is required as excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting can lead to dehydration, hypotension, or fainting. The hydrochlorothiazide component can cause sensitivity to sunlight, increasing the risk of skin rash or skin cancer, thus limiting sun exposure, and any adverse symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is essential to consult a physician before taking it, especially in combination with lithium preparations, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and potassium-sparing diuretics. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children and can be used in the elderly without special dose adjustment, but their condition should be carefully monitored. Overdosage may result in hypotension and tachycardia, requiring immediate medical treatment. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, in a dry place, and in its original container.
