This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It specifically lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. It also reduces the risk of hospitalization due to unstable angina, the need for vascular reconstruction, and congestive heart failure. In patients with hyperlipidemia, it effectively reduces total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels, serving as an adjunct to dietary therapy. It also helps lower cholesterol levels in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, aiding in the management of cardiovascular disease risk. In summary, this medication is effectively used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improve dyslipidemia.
