Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
This medication is used in patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled by monotherapy, helping in effective management of blood pressure.
Take one tablet containing Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily with a small amount of water, regardless of meals. Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is applicable when prescribed for blood pressure lowering. Dose adjustments are not necessary for mild to moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance greater than 30 mL/min). For patients with liver impairment, those without bile obstruction should not exceed 80 mg of Valsartan daily.
This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Do not take if allergic to any components of this drug or sulfonamide-related medications. Patients with severely impaired liver function or bile secretion issues should not use this drug. Patients with very poor kidney function or acute renal failure should be cautious, as this drug may worsen kidney function. Patients with kidney diseases that increase potassium excretion or certain electrolyte abnormalities may also be at risk when taking this medication. Patients with a history of angioedema or those who have experienced adverse reactions after taking ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers should avoid this drug. Diabetic patients or those with moderate to severe renal dysfunction should be cautious as the risk may increase when taken with certain medications. Patients with electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, kidney or liver dysfunction, autoimmune diseases, acute angle closure glaucoma, or cerebrovascular disorders may see their conditions worsen with this drug, and careful administration is required. Especially in elderly patients, those with heart failure, or patients post-myocardial infarction, kidney function should be closely monitored. This drug may increase the risk of skin cancer, thus exposure to sunlight should be avoided and skin conditions should be regularly monitored. Dizziness, drowsiness, and other symptoms may occur, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Do not take potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications without consulting a doctor, and regular monitoring of blood electrolyte levels is necessary. Patients with renal artery stenosis or severe renal impairment are prohibited from using this drug. This drug may cause electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalemia, hyponatremia, and hypercalcemia, so report any symptoms immediately to healthcare providers. Serious side effects such as acute respiratory distress, angioedema, severe allergic reactions, hepatitis, or renal failure may occasionally occur, and treatment should be sought immediately if symptoms arise. Due to numerous interactions with other medications, especially with lithium, NSAIDs, potassium-sparing diuretics, and diabetes medications, the physician's instructions should be followed. Pregnant or planning to become pregnant women and nursing mothers should avoid this drug and should consult healthcare professionals immediately if pregnancy occurs. Safety for children has not been established, so it is advisable that children do not use this drug. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, arrhythmias, and electrolyte abnormalities may occur, requiring urgent treatment. This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container away from moisture and direct sunlight, and kept out of reach of children; it is safest to store in its original container.
