This medication effectively lowers blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy. The recommended dosage for adults is to take 1 tablet of Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, regardless of food, with a small amount of water. For Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg, this applies when prescribed for blood pressure reduction. No dose adjustment is needed for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance above 30 mL/min).
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus, particularly during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Individuals who are allergic to this medication, its components, or sulfonamide drugs should not take it. Patients with severe liver damage, significantly impaired kidney function, or certain liver diseases should also avoid this medication. Caution is needed for patients with electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalemia or hyponatremia, kidney dysfunction, diabetes, thyroid diseases, or autoimmune disorders such as lupus when using this medication. Since this medication has blood pressure-lowering effects, dizziness or hypotension may occur when first taken or when the body is dehydrated. Potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications should not be taken without consulting a doctor, and regular blood tests should be conducted to monitor electrolytes and kidney function. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. This medication can interact with several other medications; therefore, inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are currently taking. The hydrochlorothiazide component may react sensitively to sunlight, so be mindful of sun protection while taking this medication, and consult healthcare professionals immediately if any skin changes occur. In case of overdose, symptoms such as low blood pressure, electrolyte abnormalities, muscle cramps may appear, so if you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
