This medication is used to relieve temporary insomnia. It improves difficulty falling asleep and promotes a more comfortable sleep. This helps in recovering from fatigue and enhances concentration in daily life.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 50 mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride orally once daily before bedtime. If excessive sedation occurs, take 25 mg.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by patients with certain diseases or conditions. For example, individuals who have had an allergic reaction to this medication may be at risk if they take it. Patients who have difficulty breathing due to asthma attacks, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis should also avoid this medication. Additionally, patients with glaucoma or conditions causing lower urinary tract obstruction, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, should avoid this medication. Patients with peptic ulcers or pyloric obstruction should not take this medication either. It is advisable for children under 15 years of age not to use this medication. People with epilepsy or other seizure disorders should also refrain from taking this medication. Furthermore, rare tumor patients with chromaffin cell tumors and nursing women should avoid this medication. It is also recommended not to use this medication for individuals who regularly experience insomnia or have been diagnosed with insomnia. Since this medication contains lactose, it should be avoided by individuals with lactose intolerance or related genetic issues. While taking this medication, do not combine it with other medications containing the same ingredient, as well as hypnotics, certain cold medicines, antipyretic analgesics, cough medications, expectorants, and antihistamines. During treatment, do not take this medication for extended periods or continuously, and be aware that this medication may cause drowsiness; thus, avoid driving or operating machinery after use. Alcohol should also be avoided. Patients with myasthenia gravis, those currently under treatment, the elderly, individuals with allergic constitutions or those who have experienced allergic reactions to medications, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a physician or pharmacist before using this medication. If symptoms such as skin rash or itching, dry mouth, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, irritability, palpitations, difficult urination, or visual disturbances occur after taking this medication, stop taking it immediately and consult a professional. Also, if symptoms do not improve after 2-3 doses, consult a physician. When taking the medication, strictly adhere to the prescribed usage and dosage, and consult medical personnel if insomnia persists for more than 2 weeks. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is important to store it in its original container with the lid tightly closed.

Mild side effects

Rash, redness (congestion), itching, dry mouth, abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, heaviness in the head upon waking, drowsiness during activities, discomfort, irritability, temporary consciousness impairment (decreased attention, feeling not fully awake, reduced judgment, abnormal speech or behavior), palpitations, fatigue, difficult urination, visual disturbances, angle-closure glaucoma.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Drug interactions

Do not take this medication with other hypnotics, MAO inhibitors, cold medicines, antipyretic analgesics, cough medications, or medications containing antihistamines.

Food interactions

Do not consume alcohol while taking this medication.

Storage

This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent air and moisture. Additionally, it is best to avoid extremely hot or cold places and store it at room temperature, between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius.
