This medication is used to appropriately lower the blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended adult dosage is 1 tablet of Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, taken with a small amount of water regardless of meals. Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg may be prescribed for blood pressure reduction.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with allergies to any of the ingredients in this medication or to sulfonamide drugs, those who are pregnant, those with severe liver disease, or those with significantly impaired kidney function should not take this medication. Patients with electrolyte imbalances, kidney or liver problems, elderly patients, and those with heart diseases should exercise special caution when taking this medication and follow their doctor's instructions. Mild side effects such as headache, dizziness, fatigue, and cough may occur, and rare but severe side effects such as angioedema, hepatitis, kidney failure, and hypotension may also occur, so any abnormal symptoms should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately. Caution is needed during driving or operating machinery as dizziness or drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, and if symptoms of hypotension arise, the doctor should be consulted immediately. Potassium supplements or potassium-containing foods should not be taken arbitrarily without a doctor's consultation, and regular kidney or liver function tests should be carried out. This medication can interact with other drugs, so if you are currently taking any medications, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist, especially when used in conjunction with lithium, NSAIDs, and diabetes medications.
