How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose for adults is 1 tablet of valsartan 80 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, to be taken with a small amount of water regardless of meals. Valsartan 160 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is applicable when prescribed specifically for blood pressure reduction.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as it can cause serious harm to the fetus; discontinue immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. People allergic to this drug, its components, or sulfonamide drugs should not take it. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, particularly those with severe liver disease or severe kidney disease, should not take this medication. Patients with excessively low blood pressure or electrolyte imbalances, as well as individuals with certain autoimmune diseases or cardiovascular diseases should use caution when taking this medication. Since this medication lowers blood pressure, dizziness or drowsiness may occur during initial therapy; caution is required during driving or operating machinery. There is a risk of increased potassium levels, so potassium supplements or potassium-rich foods should not be consumed excessively without consulting a physician. This medication may interact with other drugs, particularly lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), other antihypertensives, and diabetes medications; follow the doctor's guidance when taking them together. Due to the hydrochlorothiazide component, the skin may become sensitive to sunlight; it is advisable to avoid prolonged sun exposure and to use appropriate sunblock. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels is necessary during therapy to check for any abnormalities. Overdosage can lead to symptoms such as hypotension, arrhythmias, and electrolyte disturbances, requiring immediate medical attention. Extra caution is needed for children and the elderly; safety in pediatric patients has not been established. This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container away from moisture and direct sunlight, and out of reach of children.
