This medication is used in patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled with monotherapy. It effectively lowers blood pressure, helping to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it can improve blood pressure control through this medication.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dosage for adults is one tablet containing valsartan 80 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once a day, taken with a small amount of water regardless of meals. Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients who are allergic to this medication or its components, or to sulfonamide derivatives, should not take this medication. Patients with severe liver or kidney impairment, specific liver diseases, or certain blood disorders or electrolyte imbalances should not take this medication. Patients with a history of angioedema or specific skin diseases should also avoid this medication. Patients with diabetes or moderate to severe kidney dysfunction may be at risk when taking this medication together with certain other drugs, therefore caution is advised. Patients with electrolyte imbalances, sodium or fluid depletion, or kidney or liver dysfunction should exercise special caution when taking this medication. Elderly patients, those recovering from heart failure or myocardial infarction, and patients with cerebrovascular diseases should be closely monitored when taking this medication. This medication may cause skin sensitivity to sunlight; therefore, it is advisable to limit sun exposure and take protective measures. While taking this medication, symptoms such as headache, dizziness, fatigue, cough, dyspepsia, hypokalemia may occur, and severe allergic reactions, hypotension, or renal failure may develop; it is important to notify healthcare providers immediately if any symptoms arise. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised. During the course of this medication, potassium supplements or potassium-containing foods should not be consumed without a doctor's instructions. Patients with decreased kidney or liver function should have regular blood tests to monitor electrolytes and kidney function, and should seek immediate medical consultation if symptoms worsen. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers of any other medications being taken. In case of overdose, hypotension, tachycardia, and electrolyte abnormalities may appear, potentially requiring emergency treatment.
