This medication is used to effectively lower the blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose is 1 tablet of Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg taken once daily, regardless of meals, and taken with a small amount of water. The 160 mg/12.5 mg strength is applied if prescribed Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg for blood pressure reduction.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Those with allergies to any components of this medication or sulfonamide drugs, or those with severe liver or kidney impairment should not take this medication. Patients with electrolyte imbalances or impaired kidney function, the elderly, or those with heart failure should exercise caution while taking this medication and should have their blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels regularly monitored. The hydrochlorothiazide component may react sensitively to sunlight, increasing the risk of skin cancer, hence precautions for UV protection should be taken during treatment. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, so care should be taken when driving or operating machinery. Do not take potassium supplements or potassium-containing foods without consulting your doctor, and regular blood tests to prevent electrolyte imbalances are recommended. There may be interactions with lithium preparations, NSAIDs, or other antihypertensive medications, so inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, arrhythmia, and electrolyte abnormalities may occur; if this happens, contact a medical facility immediately for appropriate treatment.
