Precautions

This drug belongs to the alpha-1 blocker class and is primarily used for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia or hypertension. This drug should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with a history of allergic reactions to this drug or its components, those with orthostatic hypotension characterized by a sudden drop in blood pressure, patients with severe liver dysfunction, and pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not use this medication. Additionally, patients with severely reduced kidney function, elderly patients, and those taking other antihypertensive agents or medications should use this drug with caution. Specifically, there is a risk of increased blood pressure reduction when co-administered with other alpha-1 blockers or PDE5 inhibitors. This medication has the effect of lowering blood pressure, so overdose can result in hypotension; therefore, the prescribed dosage must be strictly followed. Furthermore, there may be dizziness or orthostatic hypotension when rising, thus caution is advised when changing positions. During treatment with this medication, side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, insomnia, blood pressure reduction, palpitations, skin rashes, and gastrointestinal disturbances may occur, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness or serious allergic reactions can arise. Especially, persistent erection (priapism) has been reported rarely, and if such symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Caution may also be required during surgical procedures as unusual symptoms may occur during cataract or glaucoma surgeries, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers prior to surgery. This medication should not be chewed or opened; for orally disintegrating tablets, placing it on the tongue and allowing it to dissolve in saliva is safe. Keep this medication out of reach of children, and do not transfer to other containers as this is crucial for maintaining the safety and efficacy of the medication. Its safety has not been established for pregnant women or children under 18, and it is preferable not to use it in these populations. During treatment, there may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers about any other medications currently being taken, especially with antihypertensives or specific antibiotics, antifungals, and antidepressants. Finally, while this medication helps alleviate symptoms, it is not a treatment for the underlying cause of the disease; therefore, if no effect is observed or symptoms worsen, other treatment options should be considered.
