This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension who do not achieve adequate blood pressure control with monotherapy. Hypertension can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, so consistent blood pressure management is important. This drug works effectively to lower blood pressure and improves blood pressure control. As a result, it helps protect the heart and blood vessels and reduce the incidence of complications.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose for adults is 1 tablet containing 80 mg of valsartan and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide once daily, taken with a small amount of water regardless of meals. Valsartan 160 mg and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg may be applied when prescribed for blood pressure reduction.

Precautions

This medication may cause severe harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This drug should not be used by patients with known allergies to specific components or severe liver or kidney impairment. During treatment with this medication, electrolyte imbalances, especially potassium and sodium levels, should be monitored regularly, and caution is necessary as hypokalemia or hyponatremia may occur. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur, so care should be taken when driving or operating machinery. Patients with heart failure or those who have had a myocardial infarction, elderly patients, and those with impaired kidney or liver function should be especially cautious while taking this medication, and regular kidney function tests are necessary. This medication may interact with other antihypertensives, diuretics, lithium, NSAIDs, etc., so it should not be combined with other medications without consultation with a doctor. Due to the hydrochlorothiazide component, sensitivity to sunlight may increase, so UV protection should be taken, and any skin abnormalities should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. This drug is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and if breastfeeding, consultation with a doctor is essential before taking it. In case of overdose, hypotension, electrolyte abnormalities, muscle cramps, etc., may occur, so the dosage must be strictly adhered to, and if any unusual symptoms arise, immediate medical attention is required.
