The recommended adult dose is 80 mg of valsartan and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide, taken once daily as one tablet, with a small amount of water regardless of meals. Valsartan 160 mg and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg should be taken if prescribed at that dosage.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to this medication or its components, those with certain liver or kidney diseases, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication. Patients with electrolyte imbalances, renal or hepatic impairment, the elderly, and those with heart disease should use this medication cautiously and may require regular monitoring under a physician's guidance. This medication lowers blood pressure, and dizziness or hypotension may occur when first taking it or if fluid levels are low, so caution is advised. Do not take potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications without consulting your doctor, and it is important to regularly check serum electrolyte levels. The hydrochlorothiazide component can increase skin sensitivity to sunlight, raising the risk of skin cancer, so sun exposure should be avoided, and skin conditions should be monitored periodically. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur during driving or operating machinery, so caution is necessary. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to consult a physician, especially when taking lithium, NSAIDs, potassium-sparing diuretics, or diabetes medications. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, arrhythmias, and electrolyte abnormalities may occur, so contact a medical institution immediately for appropriate treatment. The safety of this medication in children has not been established, and it must be stored out of the reach of children and kept in the original container to avoid moisture.
