This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension who do not achieve adequate blood pressure control with monotherapy. It effectively lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications, and helps overall blood pressure management.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose is one tablet of Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, which can be taken regardless of meals with a small amount of water. Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg applies when prescribed for blood pressure reduction. The blood pressure-lowering effect reaches its maximum effectiveness after 2 to 4 weeks.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medication should not be used by people with allergies to specific components or sulfonamide medications, severe liver impairment or kidney impairment, or women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Caution is required for patients with electrolyte imbalance, reduced kidney or liver function, elderly patients, and those with heart disease; regular checks of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels should be performed during medication use. Because this medication lowers blood pressure, dizziness or hypotensive symptoms may occur initially, so caution is advised. Potassium supplements or medications containing potassium should not be taken without consulting a physician, and severe electrolyte imbalances should be treated under medical guidance. During the use of this medication, care should be taken to avoid excessive sun exposure, and any unusual skin reactions should be reported to healthcare personnel immediately. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. There may be drug interactions; if you are taking other medications, you must inform your healthcare personnel, especially when combined with lithium preparations, NSAIDs, and potassium-sparing diuretics. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, tachycardia, and electrolyte abnormalities may occur; immediate assistance from healthcare personnel is required.
