Prevention and treatment of pantothenic acid deficiency, improvement of side effects and dermatitis
This medication is used to prevent and treat pantothenic acid deficiency. Additionally, it is utilized as a supplement in cases where the demand for pantothenic acid increases or when sufficient intake through diet is difficult, such as in cases of debilitating diseases, hyperthyroidism, and in women during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Furthermore, it is used to prevent and treat side effects from the use of streptomycin and kanamycin, as well as symptoms related to pantothenic acid deficiency or metabolic disorders, such as contact dermatitis, acute and chronic eczema, and postoperative intestinal paralysis. It helps improve pantothenic acid deficiency and alleviate related symptoms in various situations.
As dexpanthenol, 20-100 mg is administered intramuscularly or intravenously 1-2 times a day. For postoperative intestinal paralysis, 50-500 mg is administered 1-3 times a day, and can be increased up to 6 times if necessary. Adjust according to age and symptoms. For intravenous administration, this medication 500 mg is slowly infused intravenously mixed with dextrose injection solution or Ringer's lactate solution.
When this medication is used as an ampoule injection, care must be taken when cutting the container to prevent glass fragments from mixing into the solution. It is especially safe not to administer to children or the elderly. This medication should not be used in patients with hemophilia. If symptoms of hypertension appear, administration should be discontinued immediately. Allergic reactions such as itching, red spots on the skin, or hives may occur with the use of this medication. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur, though infrequently. Since it can affect the respiratory system, caution is needed as dyspnea may occur when used with certain medications. It may lead to a slight decrease in blood pressure, and excitement may occur in the elderly. This medication must not be administered intravenously on its own and require sufficient time intervals between uses of other medications. In particular, it is important to maintain a 12-hour interval after the use of parasympathomimetics and a 1-hour interval after certain anesthetics. Rare allergic reactions have been reported when used with antibiotics, anesthetics, or barbiturates, so caution is advised. This medication may prolong the effects of certain anesthetics in women. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medication only when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. Safety in pediatric patients is not yet established, so it should be administered carefully. It may not be effective in patients with hypokalemia or mechanical bowel obstruction.
Hives, dyspnea
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
