This medication helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. It also lowers the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, the necessity for vascular surgical procedures, hospitalizations due to congestive heart failure, and angina in patients who already have coronary heart disease. Furthermore, this medication is effective for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, reducing bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing the levels of good cholesterol (HDL). It also helps patients who do not respond to diet in cases of primary hyperlipoproteinemia and elevated serum triglycerides. Additionally, it is used when other treatments are not feasible in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used to improve cardiovascular health and treat hyperlipidemia.
