This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, particularly in high-risk adults and patients with type 2 diabetes by decreasing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, complications following vascular interventions, and angina. It also lowers the risks associated with myocardial infarction, stroke, congestive heart failure hospitalizations, and angina in patients with existing heart conditions. In patients with hyperlipidemia, it lowers levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B proteins, and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It is especially effective as an adjunct to diet in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and high-risk pediatric patients. This drug is used for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and the improvement of hyperlipidemia.
