This medication is used for cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and angina.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Hypertension: The initial dose for adults is Atenolol 50mg once daily, either alone or in combination with a diuretic, and may be increased to 100mg once daily if no effect is observed within 1-2 weeks. Do not exceed 100mg daily. Angina: Administer 100mg once daily in 1-2 divided doses, do not exceed 100mg daily. Patients with kidney impairment: Creatinine clearance 15-35 ml/min

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to the ingredients or excipients of this medication should not take it. Patients with severe bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may experience worsening symptoms if they take this medication and should avoid it. It is also safer not to administer this medication to patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or metabolic acidosis. Patients with bradycardia (very slow heart rate) or cardiac conduction disorders would be at risk if they take this medication. Patients with cardiogenic shock, pulmonary hypertension leading to right heart failure, or congestive heart failure should not use this medication. It should also be avoided in patients with severe hypotension or peripheral circulation disorders. This medication is inappropriate for patients with hyperthyroidism or untreated pheochromocytoma. Patients at risk for bronchial asthma or bronchospasm should use this medication with caution, closely monitored with a bronchodilator. Patients at risk of congestive heart failure should take this medication cautiously while regularly monitoring cardiac function. Diabetics who have difficulty controlling blood sugar levels or those who have not eaten properly for an extended period may experience hypoglycemic symptoms, so blood sugar levels should be carefully monitored. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function also need to use this medication with caution. Elderly individuals should start with a lower dose and be monitored closely. While taking this medication, adverse reactions like skin rash, itching, dry eyes or vision problems, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, fatigue, digestive disorders, and breathing difficulties may occur, and should any of these symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. For long-term use, regular checks of cardiac function, blood pressure, liver, and kidney function should be performed, and it is important not to stop taking the medication suddenly but to taper off under a physician's guidance. Patients with scheduled surgeries must discontinue this medication 24 hours before the procedure and must inform the anesthesiologist about it. Initial use of this medication may cause dizziness, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other medications, so if you are taking other drugs, consult with your doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication cautiously, as it may affect the fetus, and nursing mothers should avoid taking it or stop breastfeeding for safety. Safety in children has not been established, so it should be used with caution in pediatric patients. In case of overdose, severe symptoms such as very slow heart rate, heart failure, hypotension, bronchospasm, and hypoglycemia may occur, so seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment. Store this medication out of the reach of children, and keep it away from high temperatures above 25 degrees.
