This medication is used in adult and pediatric patients with multiple risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases. For instance, adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease can benefit from reduced risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, the need for vascular reconstructive surgery, hospitalization due to stable angina, and congestive heart failure. It also reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in high-risk individuals with type 2 diabetes. In patients with hyperlipidemia, it is effective in lowering LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels, thereby improving lipid status. It is particularly used as an adjunct to dietary therapy in pediatric patients aged 10 years and older with familial hypercholesterolemia to manage blood lipid levels. This medication is utilized to protect cardiovascular health and reduce various risk factors.
