Precautions

This medication is used as a local anesthetic and may cause rare side effects that affect the transport of oxygen in the blood, known as methemoglobinemia. Special caution is required for patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital methemoglobinemia, problems with the heart or lungs, infants under six months of age, and when used with oxidants. During the use of this medication, it is crucial to closely monitor for cyanosis of the skin or abnormal changes in blood color; in severe cases, seizures or coma may occur, necessitating immediate treatment. This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity, wounds, mucosal areas, contact dermatitis, or atopic dermatitis, in infants under three months of age, or in infants under twelve months or preterm infants taking certain medications. Anemia patients, weakened individuals, elderly patients, and those with liver disease should use this medication cautiously, as skin irritation or allergic reactions may occur. Temporary pallor, redness, swelling, and itching may occur after application, and severe allergic reactions or anaphylactic shock may rarely happen. This medication should not be used in the eyes or middle ear, and in case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with clean water and provide protection. In cases of overdose, serious side effects such as methemoglobinemia may occur, warranting immediate treatment and careful observation for several hours. Pregnant women should consider the benefits and risks carefully before using this medication, and nursing mothers should also exercise caution. Safety data for pediatric patients, especially infants under three months, is limited, so it must be used cautiously. This medication can interact with other drugs, especially those that may induce methemoglobinemia, so it is important to consult with a doctor. Finally, there are animal study results reporting carcinogenic potential with high doses or long-term use of this medication; therefore, the recommended dosage and duration of use should be strictly adhered to.
