Precautions

This drug is used as a local anesthetic and may cause a rare side effect known as methemoglobinemia. Methemoglobinemia is a condition characterized by reduced oxygen transport capacity in the blood, which may result in bluish discoloration of the skin or abnormal blood coloration. Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital methemoglobinemia, heart or lung diseases, infants under 6 months of age, and those taking oxidizing agents are more sensitive to this condition and should exercise caution. This drug should not be used by individuals with hypersensitivity to amide-based local anesthetics, as well as patients with open wounds, mucosal conditions, contact dermatitis, or atopic dermatitis. It is also not safe to administer to infants under 3 months old or infants under 12 months taking medications that cause methemoglobinemia, as well as preterm infants born before 37 weeks of gestation. Caution is required when using this drug in patients with anemia or liver disease, elderly individuals, and frail patients, especially those allergic to propylene glycol. Local reactions, such as transient skin erythema, swelling, itching, and burning sensations may occur, and in rare cases, severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis may develop. Contact with the eyes may cause irritation, so it should not be used around the eyes, and if it accidentally enters the eyes, it should be immediately rinsed with water or saline. This product should not be used in the ear or on areas with open lesions. In the case of excessive use, symptoms of methemoglobinemia and central nervous system and cardiovascular abnormalities may appear, requiring immediate treatment. The risk to the fetus during pregnancy has not been reported, but it should be used cautiously only when necessary. Caution is also required during breastfeeding as some components may be excreted in breast milk. Use in children, especially infants under 3 months of age, is limited and should be approached with special caution, and it is advisable not to apply it to genital mucosa. Using this drug in combination with other local anesthetics or specific medications may increase the risk of toxicity, so it is essential to consult with a doctor or pharmacist when used concurrently. It is important to closely monitor the patient's condition before and after use, and report any adverse reactions immediately to healthcare professionals.
