Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, or by nursing women. Patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation should not receive this medication as it may stimulate gastrointestinal motility and worsen their condition. Patients with specific tumors that may cause elevated blood pressure or those who have allergic reactions to this medication or lack tolerance should also refrain from use. Patients with liver disease, certain stages of mental illness, and those with breast-related disorders are also not suitable for this medication. Additionally, since this medication contains lactose, patients with genetic problems such as lactose intolerance or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Patients with hypertension, children, and elderly patients need to exercise special caution when using this medication. In particular, children may easily show extrapyramidal symptoms, thus avoiding overdose is necessary. During the course of taking this medication, endocrine system abnormalities such as amenorrhea, excessive galactorrhea, and gynecomastia may appear, requiring careful observation. Additionally, extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, and anxiety may rare occur; if these symptoms arise, discontinuation of the medication should be immediate. Long-term use may lead to involuntary movements around the mouth, necessitating caution. Gastrointestinal side effects like dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation may occur, and cardiovascular issues such as hypertension or arrhythmia may arise. In severe cases, serious side effects known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome can occur, with symptoms like high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness, which require immediate medical consultation. Rarely, rash or swelling may occur while taking this medication, and symptoms such as flushing, fatigue, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, and erectile dysfunction have also been reported. Long-term use may result in hormonal-related adverse reactions, such as changes in libido, which should be monitored closely. Before taking this medication, patients should be informed that it may increase prolactin secretion, possibly causing galactorrhea. This medication may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery, thus it is advisable to avoid such activities while taking it. Additionally, due to the risk of cardiac-related side effects, patients with heart conditions or those taking heart medications should use this drug cautiously after consulting with healthcare professionals. Due to numerous interactions with other medications, especially anticholinergics, analgesics, psychiatric medications, and alcohol, caution is required when co-administering. Pregnant and nursing women should not take this medication, and elderly patients may require dose adjustments and observation for side effects due to impaired kidney function. Finally, since this medication has anti-emetic effects, it may mask vomiting symptoms caused by other diseases, thus caution and close monitoring of the patient's condition is essential. Adhering to these precautions during use is crucial for safe treatment.
