For essential hypertension, irbesartan is administered orally once daily at 150 mg, and may be increased to 300 mg if the effect is insufficient. In special cases (early treatment, patients undergoing hemodialysis, elderly patients over 75 years, etc.), a starting dose of 75 mg may be considered. In patients with hypertension and kidney disease resulting from type 2 diabetes, treatment begins at 150 mg once daily and may be increased to 300 mg for maintenance.
