Improvement of hypertension and diabetic nephropathy
This medication is used to effectively control blood pressure in patients with hypertension. It is especially helpful in treating nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is useful for preventing and improving hypertension and related kidney complications. Therefore, this drug is effective in managing kidney problems caused by hypertension and diabetes together. It helps maintain stable blood pressure according to the patient's health condition.
The initial and maintenance dose of losartan potassium for adults with hypertension is recommended to be 50 mg orally once daily. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the same dose can be divided and taken twice daily, or if necessary, increased to 100 mg once daily. For elderly patients (75 years or younger), dose adjustment is not necessary, while for those over 75 years, a once-daily dose of 25 mg is recommended. Interactions may occur when taken with other drugs; particularly, those taking potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or lithium should consult their doctor. This medication is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding while taking it. It is safest not to administer this drug to children, particularly those under 6 years old or those with severely impaired kidney function. In case of overdose, hypotension and bradycardia may occur, and immediate medical assistance should be sought, with treatment being administered appropriately according to the symptoms. If any adverse reactions occur while taking this medication, consult a doctor immediately, especially if symptoms such as angioedema, severe allergic reactions, severe liver dysfunction, or acute renal failure appear, as swift treatment is necessary.
