This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin B1 deficiency. It also helps in supplementation when vitamin B1 intake is insufficient, for example in cases of wasting diseases, hyperthyroidism, during pregnancy, lactation, and intense physical labor. It is also utilized for conditions such as Wernicke's encephalopathy and beriberi heart disease. Furthermore, it can assist with various symptoms suspected of being related to vitamin B1 deficiency or metabolic disorders, such as neuralgia, myalgia, arthralgia, peripheral neuritis, and nerve paralysis, metabolic disorders of cardiac muscle, gastrointestinal motility dysfunction, and postoperative intestinal paralysis. However, indiscriminate use should be avoided for more than one month if no effect is observed. Overall, this drug is effectively used for various diseases related to vitamin B1 deficiency.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

As fursultiamine, the usual adult dose is administered subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously at 5 to 100 mg per day. Adjustments may be made depending on the symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is provided in the form of glass ampoules, and care must be taken when opening the ampoule as glass fragments may mix in. Extra caution is necessary, especially for children and the elderly. Patients with a history of allergies to any of the ingredients in this medication should not use it. Patients who have experienced allergic reactions to drugs in the past should also exercise caution when using this medication. Very rarely, serious allergic reactions such as shock may occur with the use of this medication, so if symptoms such as a drop in blood pressure, chest pain, or shortness of breath occur, use should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment sought. Additionally, if skin allergic reactions such as rashes occur, use should be discontinued. Occasionally, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, mouth inflammation, or diarrhea may occur, as well as symptoms like headache or frequent urination. When administering this drug intravenously, pain in the blood vessel may occur, so it is advisable to adjust the injection speed slowly. When using the injection solution, to prevent bacterial contamination, any remaining medication should not be reused. When opening the ampoule, the indicated section should be facing up and should be broken cleanly by applying force in the opposite direction, and the top of the ampoule should be wiped with an alcohol swab to prevent foreign substances from mixing. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided as it may compromise quality and safety.
