Precautions

This medication is composed of sitagliptin and metformin and is used in the treatment of diabetes. The sitagliptin component can rarely cause severe allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Additionally, inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, may occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting arise, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. The metformin component can cause a rare but serious metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis, and it should not be used in patients with poor kidney function or liver disease. Patients with reduced kidney function, serious infections, dehydration, heart failure, etc., should not be administered this medication, and it should be temporarily discontinued during certain periods before and after surgery. This medication is not administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women or children under 18 years of age as safety has not been established. During treatment with this medication, kidney function and blood tests, as well as vitamin B12 levels, should be monitored regularly. If sudden fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain occur, a doctor should be informed immediately. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken in conjunction with other medications that lower blood sugar, so attention should be paid to symptoms and medication dosage adjustments may be necessary. Alcohol consumption may elevate the risk of lactic acidosis, so drinking should be avoided while taking this medication. It is advisable to consult with a doctor about temporarily discontinuing medication prior to surgery or radiological procedures with contrast agents. This medication may cause side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, headache, upper respiratory tract infections, so if symptoms are severe, consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary.
