How to take

Adult dose

This medication can be taken irrespective of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time each day. For hypertension, the initial and maintenance dose is recommended to be 50 mg orally once daily as losartan potassium. Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should not be taken by pregnant women or those who may become pregnant. Patients who have allergic reactions to this medication, severe liver dysfunction, certain genetic lactose metabolism disorders, or severe kidney disease should not take it. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia or slightly impaired liver function, and those with heart valve disease or cardiovascular conditions should use this medication cautiously, and periodic monitoring is necessary to avoid excessively low blood pressure or worsening kidney function. While generally safe, side effects such as muscle cramps, dizziness, low back pain, and upper respiratory infections may occur, and rarely serious adverse reactions such as angioedema, hepatitis, renal failure, hypotension, and urticaria have been reported. Particular attention is required as abrupt drops in blood pressure may lead to fainting or loss of consciousness; if any unusual symptoms occur, consult a physician immediately. This medication may raise potassium levels; therefore, taking it with potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications can be risky, and must be discussed with a doctor. It can interact with other blood pressure medications, diuretics, lithium, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), so inform your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medications. Pregnant or lactating women should preferably avoid this medication; if necessary, breastfeeding should be discontinued when taking this drug. Children, especially those under 6 years of age or those with severely impaired kidney function, should not take this medication. It is essential to regularly check blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels while taking this medication for any abnormalities.
