This medication is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia due to hypertension and stable and variant angina. It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for patients who have been diagnosed with coronary artery disease through recent angiography but do not have heart failure or have an ejection fraction of 40% or higher. Additionally, it helps decrease the risks associated with coronary vascular reconstructive surgery. It is effectively used to manage and treat heart-related diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 5mg of amlodipine orally once daily, and the dose may be increased to a maximum of 10mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjust appropriately based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients who have had an allergy to this medication or similar types of medications, nursing women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe aortic stenosis, and patients in a state of shock should not be administered this drug. Additionally, caution should be exercised in some cases. Patients with severe hypotension, those needing dialysis for kidney dysfunction, the elderly, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication carefully. Various side effects may occur when taking this medication. The most common side effects include facial flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, it may lead to excessively low blood pressure, vasculitis, neurological problems, erectile dysfunction, gastrointestinal issues, weight changes, skin rashes, or liver function abnormalities; hence, symptoms should be immediately discussed with a physician. Particularly in patients with heart failure or liver dysfunction, the effects and side effects of this medication should be closely monitored during use. This medication has a gradual effect, so it is not suitable for situations requiring rapid blood pressure reduction. It is known not to significantly affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. There may be interactions when taking this medication with others, so be sure to inform healthcare providers about any concurrent medications. Especially when taken with grapefruit juice, the blood pressure-lowering effect may be intensified, hence co-administration should be avoided. Women who are pregnant or nursing should consult with a physician before using this medication; it is recommended to discontinue nursing during its use. This medication may only be used in children aged 6 years or older, as safety and efficacy have not been established in children younger than 6 years. In case of overdose, severe hypotension and cardiac issues may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment; since this medication cannot be removed through dialysis, specialized treatment is necessary.
