Reduction of risk for myocardial infarction and stroke, improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease, and also reduces the risk of vascular interventions and chronic stable angina. It is effective in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes. For patients with coronary heart disease, it helps reduce the risk of nonfatal myocardial infarction, fatal and nonfatal strokes, vascular interventions, heart failure hospitalization, and angina. Additionally, in patients with hyperlipidemia, it lowers total cholesterol and bad cholesterol (LDL), apolipoprotein B, and triglyceride levels, while increasing good cholesterol (HDL) levels. It is useful for patients with primary and mixed dyslipidemia, dysbetalipoproteinemia, and familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is effective in improving cardiovascular health and treating hyperlipidemia.
For hyperlipidemia, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily, and patients requiring greater LDL cholesterol reduction may start with 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. Generally, it is administered within the dosage range of 10 to 80 mg once daily. The dosage should be individualized based on treatment goals and response, and lipid levels should be analyzed within 2 to 4 weeks after starting treatment and adjusting dosage.
