The glucose tolerance test is used to diagnose the condition related to diabetes. This test allows for checking how well the body processes glucose, playing a crucial role in determining the presence of diabetes. Patients can assess their blood sugar control through this test and receive appropriate treatment if necessary. Thus, the glucose tolerance test helps in the early detection and management of diabetes.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Adults (excluding pregnant women): Administer 75 grams of glucose. Pregnant women: Administer 100 grams of glucose.

Children's dosage

Children: Administer glucose 1.75 grams per kg of body weight, not exceeding 75 grams of glucose.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with glucose-galactose malabsorption. Caution is advised when administering this medication to patients with diabetes insipidus, and care should be taken for patients allergic to or sensitive to Yellow No. 5 or Yellow No. 4 colorants. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur, and occasionally neurological symptoms such as headaches may also be experienced. When taking this medication, it must be administered orally under direct supervision of a physician, and drug intake should be halted the day before the test while avoiding overeating and drinking alcohol. A fasting state must be maintained for 12 hours prior to the test, and on the morning of the test, a fasting state must also be preserved, refraining from consuming any beverages other than water during the test. During the test, a stable position should be maintained, and vigorous exercise should be avoided, as should smoking. Test results may be influenced by various factors, so the patient's condition should be closely monitored to interpret the results accurately. This medication may inhibit intestinal absorption when taken with laxatives, so caution is necessary. Elderly patients may have impaired physiological functions, so careful administration with possible dose reductions is advisable. Finally, this medication should be stored in a safe place out of the reach of children.
