View approved original text

This medication is used to assist weight loss in patients with exogenous obesity having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more who do not respond to appropriate dietary and exercise regimens, or in patients with a BMI of 27 or more who have risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. It serves as a short-term adjunct to weight loss therapy based on exercise, behavior modification, and calorie restriction, and should be used alone without combining with other appetite suppressants.
