This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It decreases the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgery, and angina in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it reduces the risk of hospitalization for congestive heart failure in adult patients with clinical evidence. Furthermore, it lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in patients with hyperlipidemia and increases HDL cholesterol levels. It is especially effective in controlling blood lipid levels in adolescents with familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and management of dyslipidemia.
