Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
In cases of hyperlipidemia, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg of atorvastatin once daily. Patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol levels may start at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. This medication is administered in doses ranging from 10 to 80 mg once daily, with the initial and maintenance doses individualized based on treatment goals and patient characteristics. After starting treatment and adjusting the dose, lipid levels should be analyzed within 2 to 4 weeks to determine any necessary dose adjustments. The goal of treatment is to lower LDL cholesterol levels; therefore, it is recommended to use LDL cholesterol levels for evaluating treatment response. If LDL cholesterol levels cannot be used, total cholesterol levels should be used to monitor treatment response.
Child dose
For pediatric patients (ages 10 to 17) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily, and the recommended maximum dose is 20 mg once daily. The dosing can be adjusted according to the treatment goals for each patient.

This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and in patients with type 2 diabetes. It also reduces the risk of cardiovascular problems such as non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, revascularization, hospitalization due to congestive heart failure, and angina. In the treatment of hyperlipidemia, it is used to lower cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. It also helps improve lipid levels in patients with dyslipidemia not controlled by diet and familial hypercholesterolemia. It is effective as an adjunct to diet in lowering cholesterol levels in pediatric patients (ages 10 to 17) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used to enhance cardiovascular health and improve hyperlipidemia.
